The reason is simple. If a union in the private sector demands too much, they know it will drive the company out of business. However, in the public sector, they will simply raise taxes. Why does a monopoly in the govt sector need to unionize? Do you think I will get my driver's licence faster if the staff were unionized?<br /><br />Govt services are essentially only done by govt. I cannot issue passports or start a police dept. <br /><br />So people who migrated to those employment positions traded job security for lower wages. However, due to union corruption, those tables are turned. Govt sector are getting higher wages and a more secure retirement. I know people who retired from the fire dept at age 50 making 80% of their last paycheck FOREVER. You couldn't get such a deal in the private sector.<br /><br />So the public unions have themselves to blame for spiking the punch bowl. They work long hours in their last year so their pensions can be ballooned upwards. Gov. Walker is right in taking away public employees' right to unionize so taxpayer's can get a fair shake.
